One of the big attractions in the Thousand Islands is Boldt Castle on Heart Island. The 120-room dream castle with its ornamental gardens, towers and other buildings was constructed by George Boldt - the owner of the famous Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City - for his wife. When she suddenly died in 1904, Boldt immediately halted all construction and the property lay abandoned until 1977 when the Thousand Islands Bridge Authority acquired the property and began restoring it. Today, you can visit the island and your entrance fee helps in the rehabilitation project.
